Controlling Negative Thoughts

Subdue Self-Will

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you” (Philippians 4:8-9). Additionally, we are also commanded in (2 Corinthians 10:5) to "take every thought captive".

Brethren, we are not writing this message because we think it’s easy to control negative thoughts nor are we saying we have managed the technique of overcoming negative thoughts. Instead, we have learned to acknowledge the existence of evil thoughts and to align such thoughts in accordance with the expectation of our new life in Christ (Romans 12:2). Now whether we would acknowledge it or not, one thing is clear, we wilfully entertain all thoughts and decide either to reject it or to give expression to it. There are simply countless Christians who are battling to control negative thoughts they have about others and sadly many think this is not a sin. It is as much a bondage and punishable sin as any other sin we give expression to (Matthew 15:19; 5:28). Therefore, evil thoughts are not just influencing our attitudes towards others, it makes us walk contrary to our call in Christ.

Therefore, as humans we are and will always be subjected to decision making (Proverbs 5:22; Genesis 3:6; Matthew 21:22) which expresses our will and often there are benefits and consequences. As it is, since we naturally generate thoughts and sometimes allow some outside forces to dictate and influence our choices we will ultimately have to give an answer for our decisions and people either view us as wise, rude, easy, self-centred, complicated, moody, honest, kind, gentle, or loving to mention but a few and all these virtues and vices are based on the principle of choice.

Simply stated, a negative thought will precede our actions which give expression to our feelings. Does this not remind us of our recent moods article? Yes it does! Did it not start with what we were thinking and the objective thereof? Given to our experiences and teachings from the Lord Jesus Christ, negative thoughts has its roots either in lusts, self-gain, bad perceptions, bad experience, impatience, anger, grudges, hatred, unforgiveness, jealousies, suspicions, fear and even guilt to group but a few negative motives together (1 Corinthians 6:10; Romans 2:8).

Praying And Seeking God

Now brethren, the Lord is not pleased with a Christian who allows negative thoughts to influence his or her feelings. By giving us a teaching on negative thoughts, we recall the Lord frequently warning some of our children and ministry members not to swear or hate people in their minds for that the Lord said was wickedness. Additionally, often some Christian folk have a quarrel because of a strong presence of the suspicion spirit where someone is being falsely accused and I am sure quite a many of us fell foul to this. Furthermore, some divisions among believers are caused by negative thoughts that are driven by gossip and speculative suspicions. As a ministry, we often had to deal with such a spirit and the Lord in His Wisdom would always remind us to forgive and to bear with one another’s weaknesses (Colossians 3:13).

In conclusion, if we would at every thinking opportunity consider how the spirit which motivates us to accept negative thoughts influences our relationship with people around us and the Lord, we would be better prepared to resist the evil motives (as considered above) and accept the light of guidance from the Holy Spirit (John 16:13).

Now brethren, kindly answer these few questions honestly. Are you a fearful person? Do you often think bad things about others? Are past experiences bothering you? Do you have grudges and unforgiveness in your heart? If so, you need to repent, and pray a lot (Thessalonians 5:17) and ask the Lord to bless you with the Fruit of the Spirit (Luke 11:13; Galatians 5:22-23).

If you are not yet born again, please get started by praying this Prayer of Sincere Repentance. For any questions or comments on this article or our ministry, please contact us.

Blessed grace,
Brother Glenn

Conquering Foul Mood Swings

God Knows The Habits Of Your Soul

“A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back” (Proverbs 29:11 ESV). Again, we read in the Bible “Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good” (Romans 12:9).

In this article, we will not have an in-depth discussion on the human personality for the benefit of our message we will share some experiences and guidance from the Lord on how to restrain the mood ‘excesses’.

Having learned from the Lord Jesus Christ Himself for more than seven years, we can assure you that the Lord is greatly familiar with our emotional struggles and how it affects our behaviour and relationship with Him and other people around us (Psalm139:1-6). It would be prudent of us to remember that we communicate love, sadness, anger or hatred through our emotions and much stronger than words because or true-self would be on display (Matthew 15:19). Often, we kind of ‘cover-up’ our true feelings through our words while our actions give a different interpretation of how we really feel or how the heart directs. Moreover, in last week’s (15/01/2018) article we referred to the benefit our desires wants to fulfil the need in our hearts.

Negative Moods Ruins Relationships

Let’s just briefly differentiate here; there are moods which has a positive outcome which is aimed at encouraging others and negative moods which has a destructive intent. Therefore, negative mood swings issues from various sources of motivation. As a point of illustration, we could display a foul mood because we hold a grudge against someone; we may also be moody because of some inner-conflict we are experiencing, jealousies, or misdirected anger and even when we struggle with feelings of a strong dislike (hatred) of someone or a certain group of people to identify but a few. As a direct reality mood affect our relationship with others and not only that, the spirit of strive is being ignited through negative moods.

Sometime ago, the Lord has repeatedly corrected a few brethren in our ministry who were in the habit of having rolling mood swings and this greatly affected their relationship with God and some people around him. The Lord revealed that the negative message that was being conveyed through moods swings led some people to question the integrity and purity of our salvation and equally this cast further questions on the transformative work of the Holy Gospel (1 Peter 3:15). Therefore brethren, our association with the Gospel and our Lord Jesus Christ directly impacts how our message outside should be viewed and it should always be seasoned with grace so as to make it inviting.

How To Control Negative Mood Swings

Evidently, it is true that not all of us are naturally and spiritually gifted with the same mental strengths and abilities. However, in the Lord Jesus we have all been given the Holy Spirit (1 John 4:13) and our actions and attitude should rightfully operate under the conviction and influence of the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 1:7). Furthermore, the Bible teaches us that the Lord expects us to bear fruits (John 15:4-5) and such fruit should be evident in our lives. In some of our experiences, we often came across some people who simply don’t have enough faith and discernment to recognise the move of God in their lives and see the move of the Holy Spirit in them. For example, a person who have been delivered from (drinking, smoking, fighting, and gambling), witchcraft or any other destructive bondage of sin received both deliverance and the Holy Spirit. You may ask how so! Well, the person’s ability to resist indulging in his or her former ways is evidence of the presence of the spirit of self-control (1 Corinthians 15:9). In other words, the restraining and convicting power of the Holy Spirit helps us overcome our weaknesses. Therefore, why are some Christians saying they cannot change from their weaknesses while others show every sign of obedience, purity and restraint? The answer is simple; such Christians have allowed the power of evil, worldliness and their self-gratifying attitude to stand in the way of the Lord and His Holy Spirit to transform them. Thus, change brought about by the Power of our Lord Jesus Christ in people all over the world is evident in the way people conducts themselves are meeting the Saviour.

In conclusion, we ask you, why don’t you allow the Lord to change your unwelcoming and destructive moods? Why are you allowing the pain of being moody to control you and ruin your relationship with God and people? We implore you, repent from being moody and acknowledge the trouble it causes, assess your feelings about people before engaging them, resist your negative thoughts and opinions and allow the spirit of self-control to take over. As Christians, we should remember that our attitudes should never be hostile but kind and gentle. Let us not allow our self-will to stand in the way of the Lord if we do humility, gentleness, kindness and self-control will not manifest (2 Corinthians 5:17; Colossians 3:1-17).

Short message Of encouragement From the Lord Jesus

A few weeks ago, a very precious sister in the Lord (Sister Hannah) shared this message with me, and after prayer the Lord commanded me to share this message with you for this week since we don’t have an article for this week. I will also share a short vision I had 06/01/2018 and we prayerfully hope this will encourage and bless your heart in Jesus name.

Vision of Satan (06/01/2018)

I (Brother Glenn) had a vision this morning in the vision, I saw myself walking in a very busy street filled with people everywhere and amongst the first group of people I came across, I noticed a man who just looked different from the rest of the other people. I immediately knew that he (the man) was the devil and I firmly ordered him in Jesus name to leave and he just disappeared. I continued walking, and further up I came across another group of people and a man who disguised himself hide amongst the group of people so that he might not be identified looked at me and when I caught sight of him, I again knew it was Satan, so I said, “Devil I command you in Jesus name to flee”,and in a haste he replied saying, ‘I am going and you don’t need to command me again’ and he left End! (James 4:7; Matthew 4:10).

This vision is self-explanatory and the Lord basically revealed it to show that He has given us power and authority over the devil and we should not fear him (Luke 10:19).

Vision From Sister Hannah (11/12/2017)

I am a born again Christian but have never had anything happen to me like this before and I feel God urging me to share with others. A couple nights ago I laid in bed falling asleep and right before I fell asleep I had a vision. God spoke to me and said "Make a path for the Lord, prepare the way for the Lord" I cannot say what the voice sounded like as there was no distinct voice but those words were spoken to me it's hard to explain. I also saw a hand cleaning off a very dirty and dusty footstool and I believe it was God's or Jesus' hand. I know there are many references in the Bible regarding the footstool. Some I found... (Psalm 110:1KJV)

The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

Psalm 132:7
Let us go into His dwelling place; Let us worship at His footstool.

Lamentations 2:1
How the Lord has covered the daughter of Zion With a cloud in His anger! He has cast from heaven to earth The glory of Israel, And has not remembered His footstool In the day of His anger.

Hebrews 1:13
But to which of the angels has He ever said, "SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET"?

I believe God is telling me to further his kingdom to tell people this vision and to come to the father and that the time of his second coming is near, I'm not sure how near, but I feel it's near.

Making Decisions To Please God

Brethren, as Christians we all aspire to be recognised for the good decisions we make. Let us endeavour to please the Lord by aligning our choices to His will. In this article which we are sharing again the Lord led us to re-emphasise the importance of some of the choices we make as Christians. Also, as a ministry, we are constantly called upon to counsel some brethren who made some decisions they thought were in line with the will of the Lord. But sadly though, some only realised their bad choices when the consequences manifest and as a reward they sit with regret. Without going in to much detail, there are Christians who are unable to discern the Holy Spirit's guidance when they are faced with some tough choices. Basically, the Lord expects us to measure our choices against His will and not how our choices would always benefit us. What we should ask ourselves is, does our choices please the Lord more than ourselves? Below we share a vision highlighting choices and how the Holy Spirit is at work to help us in our choices.

Vision on Making Choices and Decisions

Vision Given to Brother Glenn on January 6, 2015

I had a vision from the Lord this morning just before I woke up. In this vision, I heard no words, but I was made to understand and feel what the conversation was about. I saw the LORD Jesus in pure white dress entering what looked like a fast food store. I saw the Lord standing as if He was ready to talk to a young lady who was standing in a queue or line to place an order. I was made to feel that this lady was indecisive on her choice of food. Just then, the Lord approached her without saying any words. It was impressed upon me that He ‘imparted’(or placed) a solution in her conscience to help her make a decision. However, she resisted the Lord’s will, and I felt His sadness. This young lady seemed to have an attitude and was arguing with the Lord. She also had a big ego and was wise in her own eyes. When she was considering the Lord’s solution, I felt His joy, but when she resisted I felt His sadness. Despite her resistance, the Lord kept on offering help. However, she kept on ignoring the Lord’s help and eventually followed her own counsel, ending up with a regrettable decision.

Thereafter the vision changed, and I saw the Lord talking to a young man through his conscience. Again, I heard no actual words but I somehow understood the conversation through what I felt. I sensed the Lord was commanding this young man to do something for Him. He replied spontaneously with a great sense of joy and enthusiasm, and I sensed the Lord sharing this joy with him.

The vision changed again and I saw the Lord standing a few meters from another young woman. I sensed that she was clueless and doubtful in her choices; she kept on changing her mind, not knowing the best option to choose. Meanwhile, in the background I saw the Lord ‘imparting’ in her conscience a gentle “NO” if the choice was wrong, and “YES” with a joyful smile of encouragement. This was the end of the vision.

The Lord revealed to me through the same method of ‘imparting’ in my conscience. I just knew the answer to this vision parable. The vision of the young lady represents Christians who continuously rejects the Lord’s word and the guidance of His Holy Spirit. Now, these are Christians who choose to follow their own ways, which may appear rewarding to them, however,  for one's own choices we must bear the consequences thereof (Proverbs 3:5-7; 14:12).

As for the young man in the other part of the vision, the Lord revealed that there are people like this young man who are open to the Lord’s Word and who do His will by faith and without doubt or question. The Lord further indicated to me that the reward of such obedience is accompanied by an intense feeling of joy, which makes Him very happy and He shares such joy with us (Matthew 7:24-25; Luke 11:28).

For the last part of our vision, the Lord said that He is always at work helping those who strive to make the right decisions based on the truth of His Word (Philippians 2:13). If Christians slip in their choices, He corrects them and shares their joy to encourage them in obeying Him. The Lord says His help is always available for those who are willing to submit to His guidance in obedience to Him, even if they have little faith they must persevere (Romans 14:1; John 6:37; 1 Thessalonians 5:14).

Finally, we encourage you brethren to be truly God-fearing Christians, and to always base your choices in the light of God’s Word and your relationship with Him. When we first accepted Christ as our Lord and Savior, we pledged our faithfulness to Him and our decisions must both be pleasing to Him and brings honour to Him (Colossians 3:17). Undoubtedly, when we deliberately keep committing the same mistakes, we dishonour the Lord and we show Him that we cannot be trusted (Luke 16:10). Consequently, we would fail to receive answers to our prayers, which may lead us to make our own bad choices. After seeing the consequences of our ungodly choices, only then do we invite the Lord to help us out of our messy situation. Therefore, the fruit of our own decisions are less Godly and often worldly-focused, and such plans are directed to please us and others rather than God.

As always, we would like to extend an invitation to anyone who does not know the Lord Jesus Christ yet, or of you are not born again, to pray our suggested prayer on this link Prayer of Sincere Repentance by faith and follow the Lord (Matthew 4:19). Blessed Truth in Christ,
Brother Glenn.
